Which is best, Generic Mag Chip or KW Chip units

There is no doubt that the KW  product is a superior product than any common rail product available on the market today. The Common Rail type product works by increasing fuel pressure. This works well in many instances but these engines are sensitive to pressure changes, so there is a limit on how much gain can be made with this technology.

The KW CHip  unit works by holding the injector open longer at the end of its cycle.

This system is more reliable as no pressures are changed. Also the unit has a throttle reference so the fueling is controlled accurately. This means the unit can be used 100% reliably with Exhaust filters. Lastly oil contamination is greatly reduced (compared to common rail products) as the initial fuel delivery is unchanged. By the time the Kw Chip  unit delivers the fuel, the combustion process is already under way.

We will email you as soon as the order has left our premise and it will be insured. We keep all Track and Trace numbers on file in case they are needed.

Can the ECU Chip hurt the engine of my car?

No, because during the development of engines, the vehicle manufacturers allow for power reserves which we use with ECU Chip.

All the engines sensors and the cars computer have been left completely untouched. If the car detects that pressures (Fuel or boost) are too high, then the cars computer will turn them down. For every kind of engine tuning we recommend to keep servicing up to date, oil changes, transmission, timing belts etc.

The KW Chip product has built on safety functions that retard power should the engine temperature rise or the throttle be at 100% for longer that the preset time

Can I install ECU Chip without mechanical knowledge?

Yes, the installation is easy. All you need for the installation is included in the package. For the KW Systems units you will require a volt meter to find the correct wire at the throttle

Can I use my ECU Chip on my next vehicle?

Yes, if your new vehicle is a common-rail diesel as well, you can take ECU Chip with you. You may need a new cable that we can supply at a very reasonable price and new settings for the internal adjusters which we can also supply. You may also need new software or firmware which will require the unit to be sent back to us

What kind of payment facilities are there?

We offer you 4 quick and safe payment facilities. Online payment, PayPal, Credit card, cash when collecting or Company & personal cheque. The unit will be shipped when funds clear.

I’m a re seller. Do I get a special price?

Yes. We have special prices for re sellers in the motor industry as soon as you buy a certain number of chips.

For more information about this, please call us.

From which to which mileage can I install ECU Chip?

You can install ECU Chip independently of the mileage. Because of the gentle digital system you don´t have any risks at all. Some car dealerships install ECU Chip from the first km on. Admittedly you should observe the recommended running-in period of the manufacturer.

We have as well customers who installed ECU Chips in cars well in excess of 200.000km, not a problem at all because of our digital system.

Can you detect the ECU Chip after it’s removed?

No, after you remove the ECU Chip it is not possible to tell that there was one on the vehicle. Different form the normal Chip tuning where the original vehicle software is manipulated (OBD-Tuning) ECU Chip is a residue-free upgradeable.

Will there be higher emissions?

No, no increase in carbon foot print will accrue due to the use of an ECU Chip.

I have a particulate filter; can I install ECU Chip anyways?

We mostly recommend the KW Chip unit with a Diesel Particle filter, those units will never have a negative affect on on a particle filter. Some times the common rail product can be used but only if we have vehicle specific software.

How can I save fuel even though I have more Power?

This is very simple. The engine will have more torque. An engine is at its most efficient when at max torque. If you increase the torque, the engine will be more efficient again and so use less fuel.

 Diesel Common Rail Product

Our Pro Chip is awesome, Makes the best gains in the market. We have many many happy customers making great power and saving fuel.

We still Have that great “Pro Chip” Products

But now we have the Magnum as well

The New Magnum runs at 6 X’s the speed of our Pro chip, And that is (was) the leading product in the world

Has an all new and larger dual channel board designed to take the new processor

Has a greater range of software to further enhance the power gains

Now also has software to select the rev-range of the engine in addition

We can offer a remote control for the unit to turn it on and off, if you require from the driver’s seat

We can install a cold start feature as with the Pro Chip for warm up using standard fueling. Great for trucks

We can run the Dual cables for engines that require additional boost (More on this at the bottom of page)

So that software we install. This is how it works

  • So an engine like a 400HP truck, We tell the chip to provide all the tuning between 1100 and 2200 RPM

  • A 250 HP Tractor. We tell the chip to Provide all the tuning between 1400 and 2800 RPM

  • A Hilux 3.0L D4, We set the chip to provide all the tuning from 1200 and 4000 RPM

  • A 2.0L VW Golf, We set the chip to provide all the tuning between 1600 and 5100 RPM

This is where the great power gains come from, the tuning is so focused, It’s in the exact place in the rev range that its required

No other Diesel Tuning module on the market has this level of tuning and the ability to set up for individual Vehicles

There are far more expensive products on the market that are technical inferior in every way, and can offer only a small portion of what this New

ECU Chips Magnum can do.

Increasing Boost is a common myth with “some”  Diesel engines

We get asked a lot about our duel cables for cars like the Hilux and Navara. The answer is “Yes” we can do those cars along with the Amarok, X5, 3.0L Merc V6 and others we do now

The thing is, those cars like a little extra boost, that’s why we offer the dual loom for them as standard

The thing is, most manufacturers make their own turbo, and they do it to very exact specs, As diesel engines rev low, the flow rate of the turbo needs to be exact. If you blow another 4-5 pound through a turbo you will shorten its life and build a lot of heat.

The Manufacturer already has the turbo blowing plenty of spare air through the engine to dilute the emissions. We actually don’t need to add boost to most engines, It’s already there. Adding boost to most diesel turbo will do nothing but shorten the life of the turbo and raise air temperatures.

The exception is the outback in Australia where the extreme heat can cause high exhaust gas temperatures WHEN TOWING VERY HEAVY LOADS. Then you choose the better of two evils. It’s better to cool the exhaust gas and preserve the engine a little and run the turbo harder. Better to rebuild a turbo than change pistons

Update 10-03-2012

Well we have done dozens of cars now with the “new” Magnum chip. Wow, the results are amazing. Here are just a few results, Of course all being verifiable!

It must be remembered that every time we have removed a competitors chip and replaced it with our “Pro” there has been a solid gain in performance. For example a 410HP Hino went + 1/2 a gear (30 odd HP) over the chip we removed. That chip retails for 1495 + GST as of the above date!

  1. 200 series Toyota land cruiser, we replaced a pro chip with a Magnum Chip and there was an immediate and noticeable difference. The main one being that the mid range is a bit stronger, but the top end was noticeably better. The last 1000 rpm became very useable as the top end HP really increased.

  2. Fort territory.  We again replaced a Pro Chip with the “New” Magnum and once again the power all the way through was much stronger and the last 1000 rpm really became useful. Much more so than the pro chip.

  3. We have so many great stories now with this product. too many to list

 Advantages of our ECU Chip:

  • We can add software to suit different vehicles that have specific engine characteristics that need to be allowed for.

  • We can change the software to set the “on point” (where in the rev-range the unit starts the tuning).

  • We can add a cold start feature to allow the engine to warm up with factory fueling before the unit starts.

  • We can program how long the tuning lasts for at full throttle, this is a built-in safety system so as not to harm the engine during long, hot full throttle climbs while towing.

  • We can adjust the total amount of tuning available to the engine.

  • We can adjust where in the rev range, the optimum tuning sits.

  • The unit leaves no trace in the cars computer what so ever, therefore once removed (5 minutes) will not affect the warranty of the vehicle.

  • You don’t need to use a laptop to tune, we do this prior to shipping, all you will need is a fine screwdriver to make any final adjustments if required

  • After the unit has been programmed for your Car, Truck, or SUV, with the correct tuning duration (where the tuning sits in the rev range) there is still 18 X additional power settings and 18 X additional speed range settings. Of course the unit will be shipped preconfigured and in most cases will never need to be adjusted. However as all engines are slightly different, there are cases where small adjustments will ensure the optimum gain.

Attention! Fuel Filters MUST be changed!!

With all common rail engines, you must change the fuel filter every service. We hear of some dealers doing filters in Nissan’s every 50,000 Ks. This is our view only, but the fuel filter must be changed at least every 10,000 Ks. Otherwise you can expect to be replacing the entire fuel system at some point. Again, this is just our humble view, but you may even find a future owner may have a claim of liability if generally accepted servicing practices are not carried out.

.

Built in Safety systems

Some units have built in safety systems that can protect the engine. Some do not! KW Systems units have three built in safety systems

1) The KW unit will retard power at approx 1% per second if the throttle has been at 100% for more than the preset time in the software. Usually 1 Minute, more on a heavy commercial engine, less on a very High performance engine. This will stop the engine building up excessive heat.

2) The KW Unit will retard power 1% per second if the engine or exhaust temperature rises to much. The unit can do this in two ways. Some units come with a connection to the exhaust temperature sensor or for truck and tractor units that connect to the computer, the temperature is picked up at the computer

3) The KW unit can also sees the standard injection pulse. If the cars computer retards power (which all common rail engines will do) due to a temperature rise, the kw Systems unit will see the injection pulse change as a result and will retard the power gain by 1% per second back to factory power to protect the engine.

Failure to do this can cause damage to pistons, turbos and exhaust filters.

.

Diesel Particulate (DPF) Filters

Many engines are today fitted with DPF filters that filter the particles out of the exhaust gas. They are not like a catalytic converter, you cannot see through them. The tiny holes go half way and stop. The exhaust gas must pass through the wall of the filter and the particle remains behind on the wall. Once the unit gets blocked up every few hundred ks, the engine puts fuel into the exhaust and burns the filter clean.

You must be very careful if you car is fitted with a DPF filter. They are sensitive to a change in fueling. The cheap unit that just add fuel by increasing pressure will almost certainly have a negative affect on the DPF filter. We are very careful when using our Magnum chip on cars with a DPF. If we do not have vehicle specific software that really limits fuel in the lower rpm. We will not use the Magnum chip on a DPF equipped car. We will never use our bottom end unit on a DPF equipped car. These filters are thousands of dollars and cannot be removed as there are sensors that communicate their condition to the cars computer. If you remove it, the car will immediately go to emergency mode

KW Systems have tuned thousands of cars with DPF filters and never had a problem ever. Not one car!

We can remove the dpf filter by changing the software in the computer. This is a very technical job and requires the removal of the cars computer and soldering connections to it to re flash the dpf portion. But beware!

If the car is a 2008 or newer model, the dpf must be installed if it had one from the factory to get a warrant, If its removed a new one will be thousands of dollars and you will need it to get a warrant of fitness

.

So here are a couple of very important points to recap

Firstly, the factory designs the combustion chamber shape in the piston, to work in conjunction with the diesel injection timing. For example the piston below may need the injection between top dead center (+0) and 6 degrees past top dead center (+6) and a different piston may need +1 to +8 (this will change with RPM). This is why we disagree with changing the injection timing by remapping or re chipping the computer. Unless each map or chip is adjusted for each engine specifically, then you have the ability to generate a lot of heat in the piston. The injector needs to spray the fuel perfectly into the piston cup.

Secondly, the factory turbo is designed to blow a lot of excess air through the engine to lower or dilute the exhaust emissions. The more spare air in the emission test, the lower the emission result. This is why we can fuel up an engine without the need to add extra boost. In most cases extra boost will create higher air temperatures and cause a loss in power.

Remapping the cars computer has the ability to change many things, remove safety limiters and change timing of the injection pulse which can make dangerously high pressures. Our view is this is an inferior method in anything except race engines.

A KW Systems unit only does one thing. it add fuel at the end of the injection pulse. That’s it! And these guys have been in business since 1987, and have tuned over 50,000 vehicles, and worked pre KW Systems developing transmissions and Turbo Diesel engines in Aachen Germany for Volkswagen  So if anyone tells you that they know more, or you should do it another way. Check their credentials and compare!

Injector Rattle

We have done a lot of research into injector rattle that accrues in some Hilux, Navara and other common rail engines. The cause of this is commonly dirty fuel which builds up in the injector.

A common rail injector fires several times during each power stoke to supply the engine with fuel. There are a couple of pilot injections (small amounts of fuel injected to establish the combustion process) and then the full injection cycle to add the fuel for the power stroke.

The problem accrues when there is a buildup of very fine residue, sulfa, dirt etc in the injector which has incredibly fine tolerances.

When an electrical current is passed through solenoid or Piezo stack it lifts the needle off its seat. It’s this action that fails during the pilot injection when the injector becomes dirty. Once this happens you will hear the full ignition detonation of the fuel just as you can in yesteryear’s diesel engines, there is no warm up so to speak. This has an effect on power as well as fuel economy of the engine. The trick is to change fuel filters regularly or install an aftermarket 2-micron filter to take as much alien material out of the fuel as possible.

From our experience some injectors get affected more than others. It seems that the Denso units are more prone than Bosch and Delphi units. That’s just an observation and not based on a study. We don’t see many European vehicles that predominantly use the Bosch or Delphi injectors giving trouble in this way.

There is an article on Wikipedia that talks about this in relation to Toyota engines.

Sometimes when you install a Common rail performance chip to a noisy engine it will make the engine quieter, sometimes no change and sometimes it makes more noise. It all just depends on the actual vehicle.

A KW Systems unit will make no change. If its noisy at the start, it will still be noisy with a KW Systems unit installed, If it quiet, It will stay quiet.

.

Suction Control Valve If we Use Hydrogen we Want to Reduce the pressure so maybe a similar megasquirt euc or other can do this and drop back diesel use by lowering pressure and using Hydrogen injection from our cell split gas cell etc!!

The Suction Control Valve is responsible for controlling fuel pressure in common rail engines. All common rail engines have them.

The problem is they get affected by the same dirt and contamination that gives the injectors a hard time. When the suction control valve gets dirty or worn (they also are made to incredibly fine tolerances) they can cause the fuel pressure to jump around or spike. It’s quite easy to see on our scanner when connected to a car while viewing “live Data” – you can see the fuel pressure bouncing around over several thousand KPA.

The problem accrues when the pressure jumps beyond the limit set in the computer by the manufacturer for a specific RPM. When this happens the car will go into limp mode requiring the engine to be turned off and back on to reset the valve.

Solution – well often the valve can be cleaned and re-installed and the problem is fixed, it’s a good idea to turn the valve 90 degrees when re-installing for an extra lease of life. Sometimes a simple relearn of the computer will do it with a scan tool. The dealers call this a pump relearn. The worst case scenario is that it will need to be replaced. There is no average to how long they last, some have been known to fail at 25,000 km and others last the life of the vehicle.
