Bhel launches Kosti thermal power plant in Sudan

Power equipment maker Bhel announced the inauguration of 500 MW Kosti thermal power plant in Sudan, the largest in that country.

 Power equipment maker Bhel today announced the inauguration of 500 MW Kosti thermal power plant in Sudan, the largest in that country.

Significantly, this is Bhel's largest oil-fired thermal power plant in the overseas market and also its first crude-oil fired thermal power plant in Africa.

"Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (Bhel) built Kosti (UM DABAKER) Thermal Power Plant (4x125 MW), the largest thermal power plant of Sudan, was inaugurated by His Excellency Omer Hassan Ahmed El-Basheer, President of Sudan," the company said in a statement.

Bhel CMD Atul Sobti and senior officials of the government of Sudan as well as the Indian Embassy were present on the occasion, it said.

Located in Kosti, Sudan, Bhel executed this project comprising 4 units of 125 MW capacity each, on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis, having designed, manufactured, supplied and installed the complete power project including associated civil works, it said.

The project comes on the heels of the successful completion of Bhel's 28 MW Nyaborango Hydro project in Rwanda.

In addition, Bhel has recently commissioned 2x20 MW Steam Turbine and Generators for co-generation application at Tendaho Sugar Factory in Ethiopia, it said.
